'What to Expect When You're Expecting' Author Visits CBS SUNDAY MORNING Today

Pregnancy expert Heidi Murkoff, co-author of the bestselling book What to Expect When You're Expecting, tells CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH Charles Osgood she wrote the book after having hundreds of questions from her own unplanned pregnancy.

In 1982, after learning she was pregnant, Murkoff searched for a book to help her through the process. What she found were not very helpful, she tells Tracy Smith in an interview for CBS SUNDAY to be broadcast today, March 3, 2013 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

"I was looking for someone to hold my hands through this experience," Murkoff tells Smith, adding she couldn't find that. "Instead, I was scared. And I wanted someone to help me sleep better at night."

From that experience, Murkoff wrote What to Expect When You're Expecting. Early response to the book was lukewarm, but it soon earned a huge word-of-mouth following. It quickly became a must-have for expectant mothers, as well as a fixture on The New York Times bestseller list, where it has been for an astonishing 600 weeks. The book has made Murkoff a go-to source for families seeking answers to their pregnancy questions. What to Expect When You're Expecting served as the inspiration for a 2012 Hollywood movie starring Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz. "Clearly, there were a lot of beautiful women - a lot of very thin pregnant women," Murkoff says, adding it was definitely Hollywood's interpretation of pregnancy.

Now, after teaching millions of women what will happen during their pregnancies, Murkoff uses that information to help her own daughter, Emma Bing, through her first pregnancy. Bing tells Smith she relied heavily on her mother's knowledge.

"I'm the type of person, every little thing scares me," Bing tells Smith.
