THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER Shares True Story Behind a Legend

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER Shares True Story Behind a Legend

We may think we know many legends and American heroes, but how has history remembered them? Robert Halpert takes on one of the Civil War's most famous figures, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, in his new book, "The Other Side of the River." While the book is rooted in historical fact, Halpert's book fills in the gaps where history has remained silent, especially in regards to Jackson's faith and walk with God.

"I was confused by the numerous, sometimes conflicting, sometimes silly stories told about him and his spiritual life," Halpert says. "I decided to investigate myself and presented the results in the form of a historical novel."

"The Other Side of the River" focuses on the last few months of Jackson's life and career in the Confederate army. Rather than just a re-telling of battles or military strategy, Halpert's main focus is on Jackson's faith and how his walk with God affected his careeR. Jackson often struggled with reconciling his own desires and ambition with the will of God, something Christians still struggle with today.

Additionally, the book also touches on Jackson's internal conflict of being personally against slavery, while still fighting for the Confederate army. His decision to join the Confederate army and the decisions he made while fighting for them shaped his life and legacy. "The Other Side of the River" examines the man behind the legend and attempts to answer questions about the role of his faith.

According to Halpert, "The history books often gloss over or omit, or are ignorant of, what makes a man a legend, either good or bad. Even legends have personal and spiritual weaknesses."
