According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grey's Anatomy showrunners Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers will executive produce a new NBC drama series based on Debra Driza's upcoming sci-fi thriller novel MILA 2.0. David DiGilio will adapt the novel for the small screen. The drama is described as "a thriller about a young woman who discovers that she's a Mobile Intel Life-like Android, or MILA, an experiment in Artificial Intelligence created by the U.S. government and her scientist mother who kidnapped her when she was found to have human emotions."
The novel will mark Driza's first foray into young-adult literature. Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of Harper Collins, will publish the book, due out in March.The duo of Rhimes and Beers will also be producing their first half-hour comedy, I Hate L.A. Dudes for ABC, with Issa Rae set to write. They will also take on a "talk show dramedy," The Mix with writer John Hoffman for ABC; and an FBI drama Under the Gun, with Grey's Anatomy scribe Peter Nowalk for NBC.
