Self-Improvement, a Short Story from Author Kodell Parker, Brings to Light the Human Desire to Progress

As the New Year resolutions begin to falter for most, the human desire to self-improve becomes even more transparent. In News From Wandaland, a collection of short stories written by Author KoDell Parker, he includes "Self Improvement," which implies a gentle reminder that no one is perfect and all can benefit from inward self-reflection in an effort to progress as an individual.

The story paints a picture of an ordinary day starting with checking an uplifting an outwardly positive email from a friend. This sparks the realization that perhaps even at the young age of 83 a person can benefit from a little more self-improvement.

Parker remarks, "Improvement is only seen in time, and the frustrating aspect is the inability to harness or control time. The best we can do is to invent devices that fool ourselves about time." Parker goes on to say, "We invent all kinds of new beginnings with time such as new hour, new day, new week, new month and a new year, committing ourselves to moving the needle on the various measurements set forth to show improvement."

The short stories, folklore and entertaining adventures contained within News from Wandaland are reflections on Parker's earlier years and rural life in East Texas, alongside his opinions on modern topics. "Self Improvement" is just one of many stories told in the book.

The intention of the book is for others to enjoy the collection of short stories and witty opinions, and it is with much gratitude for readers to allow KoDell Parker the opportunity to share this through News from Wandaland. Born at the start of the Great Depression in Nacogdoches County Texas, KoDell Parker graduated from Crushing High School in 1949, and attended the University of Houston for a short time before enlisting in the Navy during the Korean War. Parker later studied electronics at Chenier College, Beaumont, TX and holds FCC licenses. Parkers versatile work experience includes oil exploration, ground radio technician for a major airline, cost planning consultant and author. Parker supports Christian Child Fund International, Angel Paws and various local charities.
