Scholastic-Summer-2013-Full-Catalog-Announced-20121217

Scholastic has officially announced their literary lineup for the Summer 2013 catalog. The digital edition is now live, and available here. The print edition is set for release between May and August 2013. Check out some of the catalog's highlights below!

YA for Readers of All Ages
- From screenwriter and essayist Paul Rudnick comes his debut young adult novel: a magical transformation story about a plain girl who moves to New York City and explores the unforgiving world of high fashion, celebrity, and transcendent beauty in Gorgeous. Next summer's ultimate beach read!
- Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg is a witty, smart, coming-out-again story that will appeal to gay and straight kids alike as they watch Rafe navigate being different, fitting in, and what it means to be himself.
- Author David Massey's experience as an emergency supplies consultant to London's Metropolitan Police and its counter-terrorism unit helped inspire his debut novel, Torn. In this powerful debut war thriller and cross-cultural love story, an idealistic British army medic is confronted with the realities and limitations of a war-torn Afghanistan, where peace is fragile and bullets are plenty.
- Acclaimed writer/English professor Eric Gansworth's YA debut, If I Ever Get Out of Here, is a frank and funny portrait of the transformative and unlikely friendship between a Native American boy and an Air Force kid in upstate New York in 1975. Gansworth is an enrolled member of the Onondaga Nation, he was born and raised at the Tuscarora Reservation in Niagara County in upstate New York.
- Fans of Meg Cabot's Abandon series will find the newest installment Awaken a thrilling journey from the Underworld and back to Earth, as the Furies discover that their strictest rule has been broken. To return balance between life and death, someone must die in Pierce's stead.

Middle Grade
- Ann Martin is back and better than ever in The Family Tree, a new four-book series launching in May that follows the members of one family for decades in a beautiful story of the ways a family can grow and change from generation to generation.
- Written by Jackie Robinson's daughter Sharon Robinson, Jackie Robinson: American Hero, covers the legend's life before he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and what followed. This book will be published in advance of the April 2013 release of 42, a movie about Jackie Robinson's historic story.

Chapter Books
- Branches is an exciting new line of books developed by Scholastic to help grow readers. Aimed at 5- to 7-year-olds, this line of books is for children who are just starting to read independently. With easy-to-read text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page, these books will boost reading confidence and stamina. The program will launch with four fun new series: Boris by illustrator and cartoonist Andrew Joyner; Lotus Lane by Susan Nees; Looniverse written by David Lubar and illustrated by Matt Loveridge; and The Notebook of Doom by TRoy Cummings.

Picture Books
- Night Light is the debut picture book by internationally recognized illustrator, designer, and art director Nicholas Blechman. The perfect story for a vehicle-obsessed preschooler, Night Light is a bold picture book with die-cut surprises that is part guessing game, part counting book journey through the city at night.
- From the incomparable Allen Say comes another moving story taken from his personal experience and translated to the universal. The Favorite Daughter, dedicated with love to Say's daughter, is a moving story about how a father helps his daughter overcome prejudice and adversity with the power of self-acceptance, love, and family.
- Bestselling author-artist Mark Teague (How Do Dinosaurs Go to School) returns with the zany The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf, in which three little pigs with a penchant for unusual building materials (sody-pop and potato chips?!) move in with a hungry wolf.
