New Book LES MISERABLES: FROM STAGE TO SCREEN to Be Released 4/16

A new hardcover book from authors Benedict Nightingale and Martyn Palmer documenting the journey of the international hit musical LES MISERABLES from concept to film, will be published on April 16, 2013 by Applause Theatre & Cinema Books. The book, retailing for $45, will feature a foreward by Les Miserables producer Cameron Mackintosh

According to the books description on Amazon:

It has been 150 years since Victor Hugos novel Les Misérables was first published. However, for the last 25 or so, the poignant saga of Jean Valjean, a villain to some, but a savior to others, set in France during the early years of the 19th century, has become one of the worlds most popular musicals, and is about to become one of the must-see movies of 2013.

In Les Misérables: The Official Archives, the reader can find out how the musical came to lifethe trials and tribulations of turning it from the initial concept into a thrilling musical extravaganzaand how the new film version starring Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, and directed by the Oscar-winning Tom Hooper (The Kings Speech), has emerged from the show that has been seen by over 55 million people worldwide. To bring this fascinating story to life, the book also contains at least 15 facsimiles that highlight key moments in the creation of Les Misérables, both on stage and on the screen, including: Original costume sketches Annotated scripts Original music scores and librettos Film screenplay extracts and anniversary mementos.

The big screen adaptation of LES MISERABLES is coming to theaters nationwide on Christmas Day. Under the direction of Tom Hooper, the film stars Hugh Jackman as 'Jean Valjean', Anne Hathaway as 'Fantine', Russell Crowe as 'Javert', Sacha Baron Cohen as Thernardier, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, and Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier. Original stage stars Colm Wilkinson, Frances Ruffelle and more will reprise their roles from the London production.
