Museum of the Moving Image Presents IMAGINATION ILLUSTRATED: THE JIM HENSON JOURNAL Event Today

IMAGINATION-ILLUMINATED-Launches-as-Museum-of-the-Moving-Image-113-20121022

Jim Henson, renowned puppeteer, director, and-most famously-creator of the Muppets,  faithfully kept a journal where he stored ideas, sketches, and one-line log entries about his life and work. Dubbed "The Red Book," it is the subject of a popular blog maintained by Karen Falk, Archivist for The Jim Henson Company (www.henson.com/jimsredbook).  Now this diary is the subject of a new book by Falk, Imagination Illustrated: The Jim Henson Journal (2012, Chronicle Books), featuring excerpts from Henson's journal, rare sketches, ideas, and photographs. Throughout, Falk offers behind-the-scenes details into Henson's writings and drawings, as well as insights into Henson's life, his magical creations, and his artistic process.

Today, November 3, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. Museum of the Moving Image and The Jim Henson Legacy will present a launch event for Imagination Illustrated with Karen Falk at the Museum. Falk will share entries from Jim Henson's journal and show related film and television clips highlighting his career. The program will be followed by a book signing in the Moving Image Store, where the book will be available for purchase.

Tickets for Imagination Illustrated: The Jim Henson Journal, a Presentation by Karen Falk, are free with Museum admission and will be available first-come, first-served on the day of the event. Museum members may reserve tickets in advance. To find out about Museum membership and to join, visit http://movingimage.us/support/membership

Museum of the Moving Image (movingimage.us) advances the understanding, enjoyment, and appreciation of the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media. In January 2011, the Museum reopened after a major expansion and renovation that nearly doubled its size. Accessible, innovative, and forward-looking, the Museum presents exhibitions, education programs, significant moving-image works, and interpretive programs, and maintains a collection of moving-image related artifacts.

The Jim Henson Legacy is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to preserving and perpetuating Jim Henson's contributions to the worlds of puppetry, television and motion pictures, special effects and media technology. More information at http://www.jimhensonlegacy.org.
