D.T. Dignan Pens New Book of Life in the Fast Lane, RACE FROM THE FINISH

D.T. Dignan Pens New Book of Life in the Fast Lane, RACE FROM THE FINISH

In her new book "Race from the Finish" (published by Abbott Press), D.T. Dignan pens the intense, touching and magical story of a young man intent on building a racing career and how his pursuit impacts his life and those who mean the most to him. Peppered with historical accounts of the pioneers of speed, the story will appeal to racing aficionados, classic car buffs or anyone chasing a dream or wishing they had.

"Race from the Finish" tells the story of John Powers, a passionate, insightful and protective racecar driver driven for success. Since his first soapbox derby at age 11, John has desired to break into the NASCAR circuit of the 1950s.

With support from Pop, his mentor and family friend, John cuts his chops on the emerging dirt tracks near his hometown of Pittsburgh and soon moves into the Midwest Association of Race Cars' new car circuit while barely out of high school. His personal disappointments and setbacks only make him more determined in his chase for Victory Lane.

The pursuit, however, is costly. As he matures into one of the greatest racers of his time, John looks at those people who have helped him reach his dream and values them only for how they support his quest. Years later, elderly and dying in the hospital, no one comes to his side. While anticipating a visit from his estranged son, the hospital calls a code yellow: John Powers has disappeared. Where he ends up provides the chance to alter his life's course... if he is willing to change history.

Dignan had driven purpose in penning her new book, hoping readers learn an important life lesson. "While pursuing the dreams that give life drive and meaning, it is important to hold onto the people who share the intimate and daily rigors of life as their presence is ultimately what matters most."

D.T. Dignan's inspiration for "Race from the Finish" came from a red and white 1956 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe and a vision of the driver who would test her limits. With its new small block engine, the Bel Air was deemed 'the hot one,' climbing Pikes Peak in record time.
